Beauty Salons
An operator of a beauty salon should regularly inspect the salon for hazardous
conditions and overall cleanliness to ensure that the premises are reasonably
safe for customers. Here are conditions that an operator should consider when
inspecting the facility.
Premises/General Operations

Are the floors, walls, ceiling, furniture and fixtures in good repair?

Are salon floors and work areas clean?

Are all work areas well-lit?

Are all bottles and containers properly labeled and tightly closed?

Are all equipment and instruments maintained in good repair?

Are self-closing waste receptacles provided for hair clippings and other
wastes?

Is there sufficient storage space for shop supplies?

Are restrooms clean and tidy?

Are workers prohibited from using inappropriate/illegal tools and chemicals for
client services?

Is emergency contact information posted by each telephone?

Are employee-only areas properly marked?
Sanitation & Disinfection

Are equipment and instruments properly cleaned and disinfected?

Are disinfected items stored in clean, covered containers?

Are all instruments and supplies that cannot be disinfected discarded
immediately after use?

Are foot baths and spas drained and cleaned between each customer?

Are all work surfaces cleaned and disinfected between each client?

Are freshly laundered or new disposal linens used for each client?

Are beauty supplies dispensed in a hygienic manner?
